Closing my eyes and playing, yes I can picture an acoustic right in front of me. The Ravenscroft has a sound all its own, but amazingly I can make is sound similar to my AS Kawai EX, but with a significantly increased timbre range, which is one thing that makes it feel so much like a real piano.

A piano that is full usually sounds muddy, and vice versa. Beyond that, I have to have responsiveness and a full resonance without sounding muddy <- that's a supremely difficult thing to do in this sampled piano world. I *hate* (yes, actually hate) the sound of a piano in a big hall, traditional classical concert recording - to me they are a muddy mess, very typical of most Pianoteq presets.

I *love* the sound of the AcousticSamples Kawaii EX Pro. Well please realize where my tastes lie as to not turn you in the wrong direction. I suspect that the iOS version lacking, was largely due to the three microphone perspectives, present in the desktop version. The True Keys instruments have three microphone perspectives each, and the Ravenscroft four. Ravenscroft 275 is still an option, especially after your positive experience, but I'm also drawn to True Keys German Grand at $99, because I just love it's dark and dreamy character. At $150 down from $200, and having the extra SSD, has drawn me to it, again. I was (un)lucky enough, that my laptop died, so I moved the 240GB SSD it had, to my desktop, and suddenly had space for the Garritan CFX. Maybe it doesn't, or the difference between it, and the smaller libraries, is so subtle, that it can hardly be noticed, except maybe to very experienced musical ears. I've been telling myself, that since the Garritan CFX is so big, it must be very deeply sampled, resulting in better playability and dynamic range. Interesting first impressions on the Ravenscroft 275, but so many people say it's very different, and in a positive way. On my SSD I just checked the samples folder only takes up 5.32 GBĬongrats, Fscotte.

Unless you have a desire that you need the IOS version for portable reasons, may be in a band or mix setting, why sell yourself short. hence, I could rest in peace after that test ). That said, I was still clear enough ( I am glad to say ) and that therefore the increase bigger package is justified. The demo wasn't really that telling IMHO, dare I say he could have played something with a bit more dynamic range and some longer notes to bring out more of the nuances. I assume you are just getting a trimmed version, less velocity may be shorter samples, perhaps there is no una corda, the una corda sample set is one part of this piano sample I do like a lot if you like that sorta thing to add some more colour. I guess only you can decide how important that is to you.

If it is I do recall going through that test, it was quickly apparent that the full version had more velocity layers.Įven though the sound may be skewed, that characteristic will not change. I don't know if it was the same video that was posted where you could do a blind test you are referring to ?. I'm fully aware of the Youtube video comparing the two, but that's recording the monitors, so its a bit skewed and not an accurate comparison.
